Santillana del Mar with children: perfect route with stop at the Palacio de Velarde

The story: The ghosts of Velarde

If you are organizing a family trip to Cantabria, there is a stop that cannot be missed on your itinerary: the Palacio de Velarde. Located in the heart of the historic centre of Santillana del Mar, our interactive museum is not only one of the most innovative cultural spaces in northern Spain, but it can also be an unforgettable experience for the little ones because it is probably the most fun museum to visit with children in Cantabria.

In the Palacio de Velarde, children are also the protagonists

What makes the Palacio de Velarde special is not only its architectural value as the only visitable Renaissance palace in Cantabria, but also the interactive and immersive visit that enchants both adults and children.

Here, historical characters come to life thanks to technology: holograms, projections, sound effects, lights and dramatized narrations turn each room into a scene where things happen. And that fascinates the little ones!

But in addition, at the Palacio de Velarde we have materials and activities designed especially for them, which make the visit a small adventure.

The treasure hunt at the Palacio de Velarde

For children we have a question and answer book that is accompanied by a treasure hunt map. In this way, using clues and locations that they must discover along the way, children will enjoy touring the different areas of the Palace to locate a treasure chest hidden in a room.

A challenge that, in addition to making the visit more fun for them, has a reward: a special gift for those who find it.

Because we want children to also be able to interact with the story through play, turning them into explorers and protagonists.

The story: The ghosts of Velarde

We have also created the story “The ghosts of Velarde”, an illustrated story written especially for the youngest visitors. In it, a family of 13 stray kittens looks for a new home, but they stumble upon the ghosts that still inhabit the Palace. Who will be more afraid? Ghost cats or cat ghosts?

A story that not only entertains, but also introduces children to the history of the Palace in a close and emotional way.

Visiting a museum does not have to be boring, and when history is told with imagination, the little ones become the true protagonists of the past.

Come with children to the Palacio de Velarde! We await you with surprises, friendly ghosts and a treasure chest waiting to be discovered.
